Goa beyond the usual beaches

Everyone knows Goa's party beaches. These guides focus on the other Goa – quiet southern beaches, island villages, waterfalls in the hinterland and the green, empty monsoon season.

North or South?

North Goa (Calangute, Baga, Anjuna, Arambol) has the nightlife and crowds. South Goa (Colva, Talpona, Palolem, Cabo de Rama) is calmer, cleaner and better for families or a slow holiday. Panaji, the capital, sits in between with Dona Paula and Miramar beach nearby.

Beyond the beaches

Take the ferry from Ribandar to Chorao island for village trails, birdlife at the Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary and local food. Inland, Dudhsagar Falls on the Goa–Karnataka border and the Harvalem waterfall near Sanquelim are best just after the monsoon.

When to go

November to February is peak season with perfect weather. The monsoon (June–September) is off-season: many beach shacks close and the sea is rough, but the countryside turns lush and hotel prices drop.

Where to stay

The videos include stays like Vivanta by Taj Miramar near Panaji and Ondas Do Mar near Calangute.
