Kanheri Math (Siddhagiri), Kolhapur
The Siddhagiri Gramjivan Museum at Kanheri (Kaneri) Math near Kolhapur recreates traditional Indian village life through hundreds of life-size sculptures – farmers, artisans, village markets and festivals. It's one of the most unusual museums in Maharashtra, and a great family stop.
Getting there
Kanheri Math is a short drive from Kolhapur city, off the Pune–Bengaluru highway. Kolhapur itself is roughly 230 km from Pune (about 4.5–5 hours by road) and is well connected by train and bus.
What you'll see
The museum walks you through scenes of rural life – trades, crafts, farming, festivals and village life – with remarkably detailed sculptures, set in landscaped gardens. Allow two to three hours, and check current timings and ticket prices before you go.
More in Kolhapur
Pair it with the Mahalaxmi temple, Rankala Lake and the New Palace in the city, Panhala fort just outside, and of course Kolhapuri misal and tambda–pandhra rassa.
