Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur is one of the easiest and best-value international trips from India – short flights, great food, a clean metro and a skyline that looks unreal at night. Here's how to plan your first few days, with the videos I shot across the city.
Getting in and around
From KLIA, the KLIA Ekspres train reaches KL Sentral in about 30 minutes; Grab cabs are also easy and fairly priced. In the city, the LRT, MRT and monorail connect most sights, and a contactless card or Touch 'n Go card makes hopping on and off simple.
Things to do
See the Petronas Twin Towers and the KLCC Park fountain show, go up KL Tower or Merdeka 118 for the view, climb the steps at Batu Caves, walk around Merdeka Square, and spend an evening in Bukit Bintang and the Jalan Alor food street. Shopping malls like Pavilion and The Exchange TRX are attractions in themselves.
Where to stay
Bukit Bintang is best for food and nightlife, KLCC for the towers and parks, and KL Sentral for transport connections. The videos below include full reviews of IDEAS Hotel and Days Hotel & Suites by Wyndham.
Day trips
Genting Highlands (about an hour away) and Bukit Tinggi with its French-style Colmar Tropicale village both make great day trips. Penang and Melaka are worth a few extra days if you have them.
