Lonavala & Pawna Lake
Lonavala is the go-to weekend escape for both Pune and Mumbai – forts, viewpoints and waterfalls in the monsoon, adventure parks and lakeside glamping the rest of the year.
Getting there
Lonavala is roughly 65 km from Pune and 85 km from Mumbai along the Mumbai–Pune Expressway, so it's an easy day trip or a relaxed overnight. Local trains also connect it to both cities. Pawna Lake is about 20–25 km away by road.
Things to do
In the monsoon, Tiger's Leap, Lion's Point and Bhushi Dam are packed with waterfalls and clouds. The Karla and Bhaja caves and the Lohagad and Visapur forts make good half-day trips. Don't leave without a box of Lonavala chikki.
Della Adventure & DATA Resort
Della Adventure Park has big-ticket activities like the flying fox, bungee and swings, plus evening shows. Its sister property DATA Resort is a military-themed glamping resort with training-style activities – my full tour is below.
Pawna Lake camping & glamping
Pawna Lake has everything from budget tents to premium glamping like 18 Blue, with lake views, bonfires and stargazing. It's best from October to May; in the monsoon the lake is full and the hills are green, but outdoor plans depend on the rain.
